You should also try SoS/SoGm uw duo. It's faster and so much more fun, ectos guranteed. (: For vamp slot I would add in an energy management skill. It would help for the high energy cost of painful bond. Summon spirits is a must for me btw. I hate running back every single time. Gotta make sure to use armor of unfeeling tho.

Gotta have Unfeeling, Painfulbond is necessary if soloing, aatxe have way too much health and the extra dps is gg. You dont need energy management, i have a freind that runs it on nec for en, but i run it on rit with absoulutely no en problems. The bar you want to have is:
Pain|Bloodsong|Vampirism|Shadowsong|SoS|Unfeeling| PainfulBond|SmnSpirts
just dont be an idiot and youll be fine.
as far as duoing goes, the best thing to DuO with this is Mes or Nec. either SS or Ineptitude or esurge, take your pick, FoC it if u want.
oh, and dont tell anyone about our secret ecto farming build, no one has even heard of SoS before right?

For doing smites ranger's can duo rit's pretty well too, just have them lay an ungodly amount of traps right in front of the spirits and the smites run around like headless chickens for a while, letting the spirits get free hits. Not sure if it still works, haven't done it in a few months though.

This build I believe cannot do smites but I still believe thy chaos planes is more effective.

Chaos planes is where I get most of my ectos. Just the sheer numbers spawning there in groups make it worthwhile.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Armor of Unfeeling. I find that most times spirits die from time running out rather than from damage, plus Summon Spirits can be used to heal spirits. Instead, I bring Pain Inverter (or some other spirit).
I would suggest that, if you don't have Vampirism, you could use Shelter or Union to mitigate some damage and rely on natural regen - which is kind of sketchy - or you could bring a self heal instead of AoU.
Edit - btw, I haven't tried to solo UW, so maybe AoU is particularly useful in there.

Pain Invertor is great in normal HM areas against bosses and aoe types who can wipe your spirits such as ele, barragers, 100b. But AoU is a better choice in UW alongside Painful Bond, you can't use PB against mindblades or smites but will help speed up the journey getting there and taking skeles out quick along with terrorwebs. Many SoS farmers are far too reliant on Summon Spirits and just hints at their hack and slash mentality rather than technical awareness, each spirit has a purpose. If its Shadowsongs job to blind then you want it to stay alive for its full duration with spirits like Vampirism and Bloodsong stood infront protecting it not all bunched up and gettting taken out first. You may get away with it to start with but it won't help much later and likely suck away at your energy when under heavy pressure from large groups when your constantly trying to move and heal your spirits up and running out of space. Not to mention positional awareness of your spirits will help you break large groups down allowing spirits to target more effectively rather than keeping both your spirits and the mob continually grouped. Attempting to do smites with summon spirits is never gonna happen, doing mindblades with it is gonna continually put you at risk of being in hex range. Its an important skill for the build, but not always, it really depends what your up against and what char your doing it on, in SC teams you need it to keep up, Nich farms are usually easy enough to take it for speed too, otherwise it is not an automatic inclusion
My favourite skill for energy management if i need one would be Spirit Syphon
Feel No Pain is generally enough of a heal and helps being a shout rather than ench, i've never needed it for UW but i might take it for FoW

I say hack guild wars and bring all the skills in the game...
Nah, honestly now: I suggest you stop soloing uw and do SoS in UWsc. You'll be making alot more and it's with the community and on top of that, the gameplay is pretty much the same. You get to know the rest of uw and will discover a bunch of tricks around the house
If you insist on soloing though... Spiritleech aura can be helpful against the smites

if you were refering to my post - well, I'd love to do scs, but without a team and having just returned to GW after a four year break - it might be quite impossible for me to get into a team right now :-/
